All dates for 2008 can now be found in our leaflet or by using the Operating Days page on the website.

They were presented with the one millionth ticket by the president of the railway, Brian Boreham, and director Matthew Streeton.

After the presentation passengers on the train were offered a glass of champagne or orange juice.

Ed, Barbara and Jamie were all given a one-year pass for free travel on the Ruislip Lido Railway.

'Mad Bess' brings a smile to all!
Posted on: 18 Mar, 2007 20:24 by Admin

Today (Sunday 18th March 2007), our steam locomotive 'Mad Bess' was steamed up for the first time in nearly 8 months. All went well in this test steaming session and she even went on to haul the first train of the day. The locomotive has been out of service since failing back in July 2006 due to a fractured super heater element in the boiler. Our volunteer engineers have been hard at work since trying to get her fit and well again. Their aim was to get 'Mad Bess' ready for the return of the 'Easter Eggspress'. And it looks like they will achieve their target!

All going well, 'Mad Bess' will next be out hauling passengers on Easter Sunday (8th April) on the special Eggspress service.

Operating News
The Railway is now open daily until Sunday 3rd September 2006, to cover the local school holidays. You can find out more information about prices and times on the Operating Days page of this website.

P-Way Work
The P-Way Department is currently re-routing an area of track on the double straight section. This has involved the landscaping of the site and removal of earth. More pictures can be seen in the Image Gallery

Locomotive and Rolling Stock Maintenance
Robert is currently out of service due to issues surronding the profile of the wheels.
Lady of the Lakes is currently in full working order and is the back-up locomotive to the service. Graham Alexander is operating the bulk of the passenger services. Mad Bess is currently under going routine maintenance, so is not currently in service. Bayhurst & John Rennie are currently awaiting a minor modification before they can enter into service.

Shop and Café
The shop and café will remain open on Saturdays and Sunday throughout the Easter holidays. The shop and cafe will also be open accross the bank holiday weekend at the end of August.

An Act of Vandalism
Many of you may know that the RLR is very used to vandalism, however last week the vandalism was stepped up to a new level. Our P-Way building was broken into and the "Yellow Peril" was roled round the line where it was then set alight. The arson attack on the peril destroyed both the Yellow Peril and all the tools inside it. The unit is currently out of commission and a great deal of money will be required to restore the peril and all its essential tools. You can see pictures of the Peril on our Image Gallery.

Ruislip Lido - Woodlands Centre
The Woodlands centre next to the pub is now open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am until 4pm and is staffed by Hillingdon Council Staff. The centre has many interesting exhibits to look at - and lots of exciting activities to do. The woodlands centre is located at the end of the Waters Edge.
