The Easter Eggspress. It's egg-sactly what your egg-cited kids egg-spect you to take them on this Easter.

Sorry for the egg-ceptionally bad puns. It won't happen again.

That's all yolks. (Sorry)

A normal train service will also run at the usual times and fares on both days for those who wish to visit the railway but not ride on the Easter Eggspress train.

Tickets are non-refundable, however should you wish to move your booking to another train, please email advancebooking (a) ruisliplidorailway.org and we will do our best to accommodate your needs, subject to availability. The event is due to take place even if it rains and we have contingency plans in place for if the weather is poor.

2026 Steam Gala - May 3rd & 4th

Click here to purchase your tickets now.

Our first gala weekend of the year will take place on May 3rd & 4th. We are delighted to have 'Victoria' joining us from the Mease Valley Light Railway and 'Christopher' from the Littlehampton Miniature Railway for the gala - a huge attraction running alongside our steam locomotive 'Mad Bess'.

This will be Victoria's second visit to the lido - We can't wait to welcome back the team from Mease Valley Light Railway and see Victoria out and about on the line.

A 15 minute service using 3 trains will be in operation accross both days.

John Rennie and Bayhurst will be in use on the driver for a fiver experience, giving you the chance to take control of both locomotives for a 750m run up the line to Wellington Junction - a real gem of an opportunity and something not to miss out on.

All ticket types, including rover tickets can be purchased on the day, or in advance via our website (including our Driver for a Fiver).

Highlights include:

  • Visiting locomotive "Victoria" from the Mease Valley Light Railway and "Christopher" from the Littlehampton Miniature Railway.
  • Workshop & Yard area open to visitors with volunteers on hand to explain what we do and answer any of your questions.
  • All available locomotives on display in the yard for children (and adults!) to look at and sit in.
  • Our track maintenance vehicles will be on display with descriptions of what they are and what we use them for.
  • Become a Driver for a Fiver with a return trip up the line under the supervision of one of our expert Instructors.
  • The Turntable Tea Room will be open at Willow Lawn for all your refreshment needs and there will also be a small display of pictures and other information.
  • Our Shop will be open at Woody Bay selling all the must have railway items.
  • Information on how you can become a volunteer on Britain's longest 12 inch gauge railway.

We hope you will be able to come and visit us on what is always a popular day.
